Positive: I was upgraded to a house. This happened because the apartment I originally rented was "destroyed" by the people who rented it before me. I was told it was not available because the Management's team was in the process of repairing the damages. I stayed at 511 N. 5th Street from the end of December 2024 until June 2025. Myself and my Mother paid "WORK IN PARADISE" gouge prices for my extended stay. The management office treated me like an outcast due to the fact that I was not a lease holder at the Umbrella Building. I had very important time sensitive mail that I was never told about. Once I learned from the senders of the mailings that I needed to respond to them I approached the Management Office. I in fact had a private mailbox in their mailroom that I was never told about. I was told that I could not be given a key because I was not a permanent renter. I was advised that I needed to come to the Management Office to have them unlock my box to get my mail. They required me to show my State Identification Card each and every time. If I did not have my State ID they refused to open it. I felt this was unnecessary because I was already staying there for three months the first time I was asked to show my ID. I HAD PERSISTENT PROBLEMS WITH ALEX THE HEAD OF THE FRONT DESK. UPON MY ARRIVAL IN DECEMBER HE SIMPLY GOT UP AND LEFT THE FRONT DESK WHEN HE SEEN ME STANDING OUTSIDE THE SECURED ENTRY DOOR THAT HE NEEDED TO OPEN FOR ME. A lease holder came along and let me into the building with them. I arrived 1/2 hour prior to check in. Alex came back to the front desk and told me I needed to come back. I told him I had too much luggage to go outside and walk around with. I asked him if I could wait in the Lobby. He simply did not respond. So, I silently sat down waited in the Lobby. I was humiliated and did not quite understand why I was feeling that way. Did I mention it was freezing cold out???
Negative: So, I realized the laundry room door would not stay shut because of dust, dirt and filth around the door jam on New Year's Day. I cleaned it. The door stayed shut for a heartbeat then blew back open. So, I investigated the situation. The heating/cooling unit for my apartment was located in the laundry room. Upon inspection I could see that the filter was covered with dirt, lint, filth and whatever else those filters capture. I got my screwdriver took out the filters and tried my best to remove the dirt and filth. Sadly, this did not work. I had to get a shoelace from one of my boots and tie the laundryroom door handle to the entry door handle to keep it shut for the remainder of the day. So, with all of that said I figured out why the bottom of my feet were black from the dirt and filth on the floor. Before I discovered the issue with the filters I could not understand why everything was so dusty and why my feet were dirty because I cleaned the floor on my hands and knees and cleaned all surfaces in the apartment more than twice!!!! In retrospect this is crazy. All this written about the first week of my stay!!! Did I mention the spa tub did not work??? I had the handymen fix it 3 months into my stay. When they did so they left dirt and filth that expelled from the jets for me to clean up. They did not do the job properly. Upon my fourth month there I successfully got the spa tub running properly on my own. I spent lots of money on cleaning products and spent lots of time on YouTube to get the job done. Did I mention that the handymen called me "ma'm". I asked them to please call me by my name, Bridget. Due to the fact that I felt being called "ma'm" was a form of disrespect. They refused to call me Bridget instead continued to use "ma'm" for the duration of my stay. The first time I met these two handymen was when they finally showed up for those filthy filters.
