Positive: Overall, I had a good stay at Hotel Die Sonne in Weimar. The hotel is located in a historic old town building with plenty of individual character and atmosphere, which gives it much more charm than a standard modern hotel. After paying a supplement, I received a very nice room that was modern, individually decorated and had real charm, with a sofa, a small desk and a proper walk-in shower. The breakfast buffet was also very good, with freshly prepared scrambled or fried eggs, and generally everything one needs for a good breakfast. The location is perfect as well: very central, with all the main sights reachable on foot. Parking is about a 10-minute walk from the hotel, but that was not really a problem for me.

Negative: What I liked less was that the first room I was initially given, was very small and dark, almost like a broom cupboard, with no real view at all – unfortunately something that single travellers often seem to get. The bathroom only had a very high bathtub without any splash protection, so taking a proper shower would have been quite difficult. As mentioned, after paying an extra charge I was able to move to a much better room. Another thing to keep in mind is that there is no elevator, so if you have a heavier suitcase, you will need to carry it up two or three flights of stairs yourself.
