Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: The villa was stunning set high on a mountain overlooking the Douro river. The Villa itself was absolutely beautiful, could not fault it at all. Very clean and well equipped.

Negative: The location is not anywhere near Porto or the centre of everything. It is at least 35 minutes drive outside of Porto. The drive up to the villa is about 7 hairpin bends and ridiculously steep and not for the fainthearted. We have driven all over Europe and this drive up was worse than driving in the Amalfi. Given that this was winter and dark at 5pm, we found it very dangerous if you didn't know the road and we wouldn't have left the house after dark. That said , we found out from the owner, that there is a different less hazardous drive to the villa , but this is not the route a standard sat nav takes you. Very nice owner. It would have been helpful to have a small food parcel on arrival in the dark for travellers like us, especially as we didn't feel we could attempt leaving to get something to eat and drink in the dark. These are really important points which could easily be remedied.
