Forget the trip to Yosemite, Settle down in this cozy cabin in the Redwoods along a year round creek with waterfalls, dubbed "The Treehouse" for its location above the road high up in the trees. The drive to this location is just as beautiful and adventurous as the stay at the location itself. Dry Creek Valley is your main route past 100's of wineries, then past Lake Sonoma to Rockpile Rd. Turn off of Rockpile Rd. down a gravel/dirt road (AWD recommended but not needed) with incredible cliffside views.
You arrive to something that looks like a scene from Jurassic Park with 6' tall ferns and rocks covered in moss, the entrance of what is called "The Pack Horse Ranch," a near 300 acre Redwood and mixed coniferous forest reserve. Within it is "The Treehouse". It is at the end of the canyon and end of the road, with complete and total privacy. There are three small (a couple inches deep) creek crossings as well as two redwood historical logging bridges to the location which makes you feel like you are truly isolated and going back into time. A time which is quieter and simpler. Once an Indian Rancheria (hence the name Rancheria Creek), the property, since the 1950's, was a vacation home for 2 families in the summer. The property was finally united as one in the last 3 years by the new owners to encompass the entire valley. One side of the canyon features a trail to a mountain top valley at the base of a massive rock formation called "Eagle Rock" once known as "Kabaptewi" or (at the big rock). This was a very special place to the Pomo Indian people and a place for ceremonial activities. The other side of the canyon boasts trails to the mountain tops peaking at 1700 feet overlooking Rockpile Rd Mt. St. Helena, and beyond. The view back into the valley is our favorite as you can guess where the cabin is within the forest you came from. The easiest hikes within this property are along the 1.5 miles of private creek in the old growth redwood forest where you can see all kinds of wildlife including fish, frogs, and newts. Some trees in this forest are over 250ft. tall and over 800 years old!
You can even walk inside of one of the trees.
There are several swimming holes for those who don't mind the cold mountain water and want to bathe under a waterfall. For those who don't, there is an outdoor claw foot bathtub (we fit two people face to face) on the patio on the backside of the cabin. There is also a shower inside the cabin. There is a loft for 2 people to sleep with memory foam mattresses that can be separated to sleep 2 people or slide together to sleep a cozy couple. There is a futon that sleeps 2 more in the living area, TV, Kitchen with stove, oven, and refrigerator. Mind you, there is NO CELL SERVICE, NO INTERNET, and NO PHONE at the cabin. For 5g cell service you must drive out or hike to the top of the mountain. This is a TRUE wilderness Cabin. No one will bother you here! There is a fire pit for s'mores adjacent to the cabin and a generator for power. There is also a propane powered outdoor BBQ . Potable Water is supplied by the fresh and cold natural mountain spring water.
Down the street from the cabin is a large open area for tent camping if you are looking to invite your friends (extra charge for tent campsite to be included). There is only creek water at this site for fire protection, and a composting toilet is available if not using the restroom at the cabin. Up from the tent camp area there is a small vegetable garden maintained by the owners in the summertime. There is plenty to do and see on the property via day hikes, but if you are looking to dine out, there are Michelin rated restaurants 30 minutes away in either Healdsburg or Geyserville. Wine tasting is only 20 minutes away in Dry Creek Valley. Lake Sonoma is also 20 minutes from the cabin for fishing, boat, or jet ski rentals. Seasonal hunting is available within the park as well.
The Ranch at Lake Sonoma is also 20 minutes away and takes 1 hr, or 2 hr guided horseback tours through the adjacent 15000 acre Lake Sonoma park for ages 8+. Lake Sonoma also boasts over 50 more miles of hiking trails (public) just in case you have exhausted all the hikes on the property!
When you arrive at the cabin you will receive instructions on how to use all equipment needed to provide power and water to the cabin. You will also receive hiking maps of the property, picnic locations and dining and winery recommendations. We can also coordinate horseback tours at a discounted price for guests that stay at "The Treehouse". There are also live music events that happen within the park at Lake Sonoma and surrounding wineries so you will receive recommendations for local nightlife as well. This property is a true gem for its locality to upscale wine tasting and dining, and for its completely unique and rare wilderness feel inside a redwood forest on a year round creek with miles of private trails.
This property is a minimum of a 31 day rental. Use those days how you want, stay for a week, come every weekend, or stay the whole month! We do show the property up to the rental season, so if you would like a tour to decide, please contact us directly to coordinate. Renter will have unfettered access to the full 275 acres of trail, 1.5 miles of creek and to the old growth redwood forest.
Usually you will see something related to noise or quiet time hours. Forget that, no one can hear you at The Treehouse!
That being said,
Please respect host living area especially in the evening hours. (Host living area is 0.5 miles away from The Treehouse).
4WD is not necessary, but low clearance cars are not recommended, due to the rocks in the creek being lumpy. Most family vehicles/SUVs are fine, if you are unsure please contact us. Please drive 5 miles per hour once on the driveway off Rockpile Rd.
There are dangerous natural features on the property such as but not limited to deep water, cliff edges, rocks, etc. at no time will property owner be held liable for such inherent dangers on the property. Renters must watch their children closely and keep them attended at all times on the property. Our children when they were young made several full size stick forts in the forest, maybe your children can find them!
No children allowed in the loft.
Hunting, guns, ATVs, and Motorcycles are not allowed. Bicycles are ok, and electric skateboards. Some hikes on the property can be strenuous. Elevation changes from 700 to 1400 ft. Are found on the property. Please make sure you reference the map prior to starting any hikes. Never start a hike in the afternoon without bringing a flashlight.
