This mid-18th century former inn offers unique rooms, free Wi-Fi, and excellent views of Rye. Built around 1750 for local sailors and ship builders, The Hope Anchor is thought to have once sheltered the Tenterden Gang, who used its old secret passages for smuggling. Relax beside the log fire in traditional cozy bar, and enjoy the individually styled bedrooms, some of which have a four poster bed. In the morning enjoy a delicious traditional full English breakfast or if you prefer a lighter continental breakfast of cold meats and cheeses, yogurt and fresh fruit salad or maybe even have both!! all served in our breakfast room. Positive: Excellent location. Very helpful and friendly staff. We've stayed here several times. We. will definitely stay there again. We arrived in Rye early and the hotel were happy to take our bags and the same the morning we were leaving.. All done by smiling and happy and friendly people.
Negative: Although a lovely bed it was one of those with the wooden frame slightly larger than the mattress. My poor husband bashed his shins on it several times. He was at the window side and had to walk around it to get in and out and get to the ensuite.
