Positive: After reading so many reviews and making a shortlist of different all-inclusives, we decided to go with this one (the cheapest on our list) but then pay for the Royal upgrade. We loved the VIP feeling of Royal, with access to bar with better liquor, VIP pool and beach booths, VIP check in with welcome drink, and VIP restaurant. Breakfast main buffet and Mexican restaurant lunch buffet were excellent. The international restaurants were nice but most dishes not really authentic, for example VIP steak was weird, Italian pastas a little different than they should be, etc. Manage expectations. Pool is great, beach is nice, and the grounds are lovely. Loved the body board rentals, tennis, and gym. In June (low season), I would say 70% of guests were locals and it was not hard to get pool chairs. Staff was great and there was no pressure for excursions or time shares – they weren't even mentioned.
Negative: The performances (mostly 9 PM) were too late for our kids so we didn't catch any of them. The kids center looked like nothing special and was empty most of the time so we never used it (note, we were there in June low season). Music and activities/announcements at the pool were kind of loud – honestly would prefer just silence or quieter music. Wish the bars had cocktail lists – we'd see so many bottles but had to Google for ideas of drinks to order, and had to learn how to ask for no/less sugar because they add a ton if you don't. Also wished they had more beers than just Corona and Modelo. Local craft beers or international beers would be welcome. There was no option for Royal + balcony room on Booking – no idea why but would have paid more for it.
