The Ibaï Loft is a 15-minute walk from the Cité du Vin. A little history:
The old faubourg of Chartrons is the historical stronghold of wine merchants. Its history is also marked by colonial trade. The most distant origins of the district, to which it owes its name, date back to the 14th century when a community of Carthusian monks settled there. The great Flemish, Irish and English merchant families arrived in the 17th century. In the 18th century, the port of La Lune was the most important in France. In the 19th century, the wine industry in the Bordeaux region was at its peak and the district was home to the largest merchants in the sector. Neglected after the Second World War, the Chartrons district found a new lease of life at the dawn of the 21st century: its beautiful facades have now been restored and its pleasant alleys are full of antique shops, art galleries and decoration shops. Facing the Garonne River, the old negociants whose wide porches once allowed the passage of barrels are now welcoming bistros and other restaurants.
