Autumn Ridge sits on the West side of Big Yellow Mountain, in the Yellow Mountain Preserve, overlooking Grassy Ridge, one of the highest mountains in the Appalachians, over 6,000 feet in elevation. The expansive view takes in the Appalachian Trail coming out of Roan Mountain. The Forest Conservancies continue to add large tracks to their assemblage along Roaring Creek Road, assuring undisturbed national forests encircling Autumn Ridge. Guests will enjoy an unobstructed, almost 360-degree panorama, with long-range 50-mile views and bold ridgelines closer, creating an unforgettable breathtaking horizon.
Autumn Ridge is a destination in itself, with Newland being the closest small town where you can find gas, groceries, and small local restaurants 30 minutes away. Linville Falls, Banner Elk, Sugar Mountain, and Grandfather Mountain are all within a 45-minute drive. Boone is 1 hour away, and Asheville and Black Mountain are within ninety minutes.
This unique destination will accommodate 17 guests on 4 levels, with 8 bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms, and two powder rooms. There is a full gym, theater room, elevator to all levels, and an awe-inspiring atrium.
Enter the first level of the house and find the gym and the expansive theater room. On the patio is the swim spa designed for intense workouts, swimming against powerful water jets. Get to the second level via the custom stairway or the elevator that accesses all four floors. On the second level is a game room with a full wet bar, a pool table, and a large mounted TV. There are three bedrooms on the second level, the Pisgah Room, the wheelchair-accessible Croatan Room, and the Cherokee Room, which has an open or private sitting room outside the bedroom.
The third floor is the main level, where you will find the luxurious living room, the gourmet kitchen, and the home's main feature, the glass-encased atrium. The atrium is a versatile area that can be a relaxing gathering space, with furnishings surrounding the gas fire table, a dining area, or any number of other uses. The views from the atrium will take your breath away and will be the favorite gathering place in the castle. The kitchen is any chef's dream, with two large refrigerators, a large pantry, a gas range, a griddle, a pizza oven, and ample space to create masterful meals.
Surrounding this entire level is a fully enclosed, glass-windowed, wrap-around deck. The opportunity to walk around and take in the view from every angle is enchanting. There is a shuffleboard table for fun and games outside the kitchen, an office space, quiet reading nooks, and balconies to discover.
The Autumn Ridge master bedroom on the main level has a king bed and a glorious private master bathroom. Please note - the gas fireplace is no longer operational in the master bedroom due to the wrap-around porch being enclosed.
The fourth and final level creates a bonus room, looking over both sides of the main floor and set up as a fun kids' family room. A cozy sectional surrounds a TV and kids' toys and games at a child's table. The Red Barn Room includes three twin beds and a bathroom set up for kids with step stools at the double vanity and a tub/shower combo. Three other queen bedrooms on the fourth floor have walk-in closets, private bathrooms, and balconies. They are called The Big Yellow Room, Little Yellow Room, and Grassy Ridge Room. Each of the eight rooms in the estate is aptly named for the direction of the views from the balconies and preserved natural spaces that surround Autumn Ridge.
Despite its rural location, this home has advanced technology with uninterrupted wifi and cell phone coverage. The security system included cameras in the house with the option to turn them all off with one switch. Guests can turn the in-house cameras off with the labeled switch on the first floor or have them on to view the monitored areas of the home on the kitchen TV screen. There is a whole home generator in case of a power outage due to winter weather or high winds. The road leading up to the top of the mountain is a maintained gravel road with inclines and switchbacks. There is a plowing service in the winter weather, however, guests should prepare with 4WD and tire chains during winter. There is parking for up to 10-15 cars. A 5-night night minimum stay is required. Pets are not allowed at this property.
