Positive: Hotel Julian was exactly what I expected: charming, a little worn in the best way, and full of the character you’d expect from an older building. The staff were great — local, kind, and genuinely welcoming. My room was small, funky, and nicely updated, though it was a bit noisy, which also felt pretty in keeping with the building.

Negative: One downside was that the room did not have a safe. I was also disappointed that the restaurant and bar, Carlotta’s, was closed because it’s apparently seasonal, since one of the reasons I chose this hotel was for the restaurant. It would have been helpful if the hotel and Booking.com had made that clear in advance rather than implying the hotel had a restaurant available.

Summary: Overall, it was a comfortable stay that matched the hotel’s personality, with a few disappointments.
