6 Bedroom House with Internet, Kitchen and Laundry

This listing is a fabulous family cottage with water views throughout. It is uniquely located in the only active colony left in the state of Maine. Featuring a Dining Hall, Rec Hall, Communal Pool, small tennis courts, basketball area, and swing set. Walking distance to a little private beach, perfect for launching kayaks etc. The history of this community is quite special.
The spacious cottage has 6 bedrooms and 2 full baths. It sleeps 11. ( 2 queens, 2 doubles, 5 twins, 4 of which are bunk beds, and a toddler bed). It also has a comfortable size living room, dining area, and a sitting room ~ 2 flat screen tv's, fully stocked kitchen, a separate laundry area, and two outside decks. The cottage is also very kid-friendly.
*The Dining Hall serves fabulous dinners from Wednesday-Saturday, and brunch on Sunday. There is a required Dining Hall meal minimum of $350 per week. This minimum will be deducted from your meal total, any outstanding invoice will need to be paid upon departure. Most adult dinner prices typically run between $30-$38. Serving lobster, steak, vegetarian , an much more. Brunch prices are less. Maintaining the 100-year tradition of the Colony, coat and tie are required for dinner 2 nights a week and business casual, 2 nights a week. Sunday Brunch is casual, come as you are. Full three course, chef prepared meals in an inviting atmosphere. Byob ~
There is so much to do here , at the Colony, and in its' town of Harpswell. Many hiking trails, small beaches to explore, restaurants, fresh lobsters, gift shops, fishing charters, ferry rides, afternoon cruises, and so much more !

Summary: This house has a lot of charm, and it's great for a big family to be able to spread out and enjoy all of the amenities the colony has to offer. We played tennis and basketball on the grounds, took kayaks out for a paddle, and utilized the pool every day of the week. The play set entertained the young kids, but there's also a great school playground down the road we ended up visiting a few times. We took day trips to Portland, and explored the neighboring area. The main road was too busy for our kids to ride their bikes, and there's no shoulder, but some adults went for a daily run and bicycled out to Potts Point. Morse's Cribstone Grill is delicious (Estes Lobster House, not so much) as is Erica's Seafood and Nance's Seafood Shanty. We cooked plenty in the house as well, which had pretty much everything you will need. The exception to that was any kind of cooking staples. In some vacation rentals, you'll find items renters have bought and leave there like cooking oil or spices. Not the case here. Not a big deal, just something to note for future renters. We brought floats for the pool, but they had floats and boogie boards there. We brought tennis balls and rackets for the court, but they had those as well. Jigsaw puzzles, movies, games, cards, plenty of beach towels, beach chairs, laundry detergent, pretty much everything we thought to bring just in case the house didn't have it was there already. There were fans in every bedroom, which cooled the whole upstairs down at night. We used the $350 dining hall fee on brunch for everyone, and then a small group of us went out for dinner to use up the balance. Brunch was definitely the better of the two meals. We found the dinner food a little on the bland side. The only negative experience we had was finding shards of glass in the home throughout the week. Upon arrival we found some in several bedrooms and common areas and continued to find more including on the front porch - it's still a mystery how so much glass ended up in so many rooms. A few of us cut our feet. Sheri was great and offered to come vacuum, but by then we had our stuff scattered throughout the house so we declined the offer. That experience would not deter us from renting here again though. It was really a wonderful place to vacation.
