The owners' love story with Door County began when they honeymooned there in 1999. During the following decades, their family grew and their vacations continued to be on the peninsula. Kayaking, biking, and enjoying delicious food are some of their favorite ways to spend time, especially in the quiet landscape of the northern part of the county. The dream of owning a home with space for hosting family and friends, decorated and furnished in a way that feels modern yet cozy, and situated among the trees in Ellison Bay became a goal as their attachment to the area grew. They wanted a place that was comfortable, accessible to folks with mobility limitations and larger bodies, and was near Europe Lake, Garret Bay, and Newport State Park. Their hope is to allow others families and groups to fall in love with Northern Door County while making memories in Halvø Home.
Two bedrooms and a full bath are on the main level with no stairs to enter the house. The other two bedrooms, full bath and second living area are on the second floor up the stairs.
About the name:
"Halvø" means "peninsula" in Danish. Johan Brendt Eliason immigrated to Door County from Denmark in the mid-1800s. He was a well known land owner and business person whose last name was misspelled as "Ellison" on government records. This spelling was later embraced by Johan himself and the rest is history.
