This new eco-house is recently completed, is beautiful, and has the perfect view. Set in the middle of the forest with views of the Oaxacan mountains AND the Pacific Ocean, you'll feel removed from the hustle and bustle of town while only a few short minutes to the beach. Solar powered, ecologically built, and with a cool ocean breeze that will make you want to spend the day basking in the shaded hammocks on the wrap-around deck. A small swimming pool is literally a step away from the living room and there is a full size fridge and a full kitchen for those who want to cook. We live in the house next door and are usually on site to explain the intricacies of an ecological house. The intricacies and details that make up this architectural gem will make you marvels on arrival. Whoever said that ecological design was simple?

Summary: Most excellent experience! First of all, the place is even more beautiful in person than can be captured by photo. On top of the mountain, ocean views with sunrise and sunset, cool breezes that come up the hill. Off grid eco-lodge that is functionally elegant, solid, beautiful construction, simple elegance, not a bungalow. The host / owner Orion is the most generous and fun host I've had in many years of travel. Easy to communicate with truly supportive of our well-being, including being a problem solver for anything that you may need. Including picking up things at market for us. He's created a family and lifestyle that's fully integrated into local community as well as being savvy of international culture. I've come to really enjoy our conversations and trust that we will have a long term friendship. The house is not close to the beach, about a 10 min walk downhill, 20 min walk up hill. I've come to appreciate that it's a bit like having your own mountain retreat, in addition to access to the lively beach culture. I happen to love Zipolite and the nearby villages and have been coming there for 4 years. I would not recommend this house for people who have difficulty in hiking, or nervousness around loud dogs (some friendly some not), unless you are satisfied to relax into a remote experience. I've been traveling up & down the hill once or twice a day with no problem however. Borrowing ATV or renting a local motorbike would be another solution to ease of travel. I'm picky about a few things.....especially beds, and these are excellent. The house has 2 firm memory foam queen beds upstairs with an open loft ceiling, deck all the way around, fans if needed. There is a room divider curtain that can separate the beds. Downstairs is a full sized futon that a few visiting friends have slept on in the living room. We have found it all comfortable for 4-5 people, though the days I've stayed alone were just as fun. Being the warm weather, I generally don't wear clothes (or just a sarong) and Orion & his wife are fine with that. The outdoor shower is really fun waterfall style, surrounded by plants on a lattice. I take mostly cool showers but you can get hot water (esp later in the day when the solar hot water heats) if your patient. Perhaps the best thing about the experience there was feeling a part of community rather than a tourist, and contributing to local economy in ways that can be enduring.
