This beautiful 18th-Century park, which is Grade II listed, contains a sheltered five-acre walled garden which gradually slopes down to an ornamental lake at the southern end, where ospreys have been known to catch their dinner!
Exton Park, 20 minutes by car from Peterborough and less than 10 from the A1, is home to the Gainsborough family. The house and grounds are occasionally used for weddings, and regularly as a location for film and photo shoots. The parkland has existed since the 12th Century, and the gardens witnessed performances by Handel in the 18th Century. The old potting shed now forms the honesty shop where essential items and local produce can be purchased.
Exton Park has a wonderful Gothic Folly, Fort Henry, in the grounds on the edge of a private lake, that can be rented from the estate for weddings and other events, and it is certainly well worth a detour to take in the view. Exton Park has extensive public access throughout the estate along 14 miles of footpaths and bridleways with wonderful scenic views.
