This rural retreat is set in a small village close to the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, and the ideal base to explore all that Suffolk has to offer. The accommodation is all on the ground floor and offers two bedrooms, each with their own en-suite. There’s also a comfortable living room, dining room and kitchen, whilst outside is a small patio area, ideal for enjoying your favourite tipple. Guests also have access to the owners’ grounds, and a barbecue is available on request.
Culford is a small village 4 miles from the beautiful, historic town of Bury St Edmunds, where you will find an assortment of shops and restaurants. A visit to the abbey gardens with its 11th century ruins is also a must. The best way to explore the town is by embarking on the Mystery Treasure Trail which takes about two hours.
Just outside the town centre is Nowton Park with 80 hectares of landscaped parkland, marked trails, wildflower meadows, ponds, and a hornbeam maze. The APEX theatre is the home of live music and has a diverse music programme. The traditional coastal town of Southwold is a great day out with its blend of independent shops, eateries and even a traditional working lighthouse. A visit to the local brewery or a trip on the ferry to Walberswick is a must. If you love fish and chips then Aldeburgh is the place to go, mind you get there early as it has a very popular fish and chip shop with rave reviews from national papers!
Just down the road from Aldeburgh is Thorpeness, which was developed as a holiday village with its quaint houses. The picturesque Mere is home to the Thorpeness Regatta every August, and is made up of several small islands all named by J. M. Barrie, author of ’Peter Pan’, here you can take out a little boat and explore Pirate’s Lair or Wendy’s House. There are many beautiful villages and towns to explore in Suffolk, all within easy distance of Walnut Cottage.
