- There is a lower door that leads to the dry river bed. If you follow the river bed for 10 minutes you'll reach the lake!

Iznajar Town:
Built around the ruins of the 1,200-year-old Moorish castle which tops a rocky outcrop, situated near the southerly border of Córdoba province, serves as a natural entrance to the Sierra Subbeticas Natural Park and city of Antequera.
In Iznajar there are many shops, bars and restaurants, when you order drinks many Spanish bars will also serve a variation of tapas for you to experience true Andaluce cuisine!
There are many fiesta’s throughout the year, however, unsurprisingly, Semana Santa, Easter week, is the most important festival, It's well worth the trip, as each region of Spain has its own way of celebrating the event.
Excursions are available in the picturesque Iznájar, nature lovers will get their money's worth, and water sports fans can enjoy the reservoir.
Iznajar is where you will find beautiful hiking trails, mountain bike trails and the lake for, swimming, canoeing, rowing, kayaking and course fishing. There is also white water rafting, paragliding, horse riding, 4x4 safaris, Vespa tours, cycling, bird watching and much much more nearby.
Rute:
Just 20 minutes away, overlooking Iznájar reservoir, this whitewashed town is best known for its manufacture of aguardiente de anís, an aniseed-flavoured liqueur, an industry that has been thriving here since the 19th-century. Try it at any of the town's bodegas where it is produced, or see the Museo Anís on the Paseo del Fresno to find out about how anís has been produced through history and today.
Rute also produces its own celebrated cured ham and delicious sweet treats. Visit the Casa-Museo del Jamón on the Plaza de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza, close to the anís museum.
The "Museo Artesanal del Mantecado, Turrón y Mazapán" with displays of traditional methods of manufacturing these sweet delicacies traditionally served at Christmas such as nougat and marzipan and you can see some old-fashioned equipment that was used to make them. A visit includes seeing the factory where these sweets are still produced today and the factory shop, where you can buy them.
If all this wasn´t enough for a short visit, the town also has a ruined Moorish castle and a fine Baroque church.
Granada:
Only 1 hour’s drive, and famous for the Alhambra Palace, which by starlight is silver but by sunlight is transformed into gold. Many visitors head to Granada for the Islamic architecture and Arab-flavored street life which go hand in hand with monumental churches, old-school tapas bars and counterculture graffiti art.
For the Alhambra Palace, booking in advance is advisable.
Cordoba:
Córdoba is famous around the world for the Great Mosque, the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos, the Synagogue and the Roman bridge. These are prime examples of Córdoba’s old quarter. Its historic old town is a World Heritage site, full of little streets to be explored.
Recommended sights include the Jewish quarter, the Calahorra tower, the Roman theatre, Caballerizas Reales, Plaza de la Corredera… A good way to explore the city is to take a guided tour of the sights, or follow one of the themed routes suggested in the Tourist Offices, including Roman Cordoba, the Caliphate route, or the Fernandine route of medieval churches. Just 10 kilometres from the city, with direct bus routes to it, is Spain’s largest archaeological site, Medina Azahara, the ruins of the former capital of the Caliphate, a World Heritage site since 2018.
In the Capital there are many stunning squares, fountains and courtyards amazingly decorated with plants and flowers.
Cordoba attracts millions of visitors every year, and is only 1 hour and 20 mins away!
Malaga:
Just 40 minutes away, is capital of the province, with its lovely Harbour, well worth a visit. Famous for superb wines. Malaga’s cathedral at the plaza de la cathedral, is one of the most prominent buildings of the city.
Museo Automovilistico y de la Moda is definitely a must see, including makes and models of classic and historically designed cars. Interspersed in these sections are mannequins dressed in period authentic clothes and hats, and unusual jewellery and paintings of the period which give you a snapshot of these times.
I thought this collection was absolutely wonderful with all the exhibits kept in an immaculate condition. This museum was an absolute pleasure to visit.
Seville:
Famous for its architecture, and approx. 2 hours away, Seville’s architecture is a mixture of the old and new, the ancient and modern. Phoenicians, romans, Visigoths, Arabs, all have lived in this city and therefore have left a trace in buildings, urban planning and culture. Roman remains can be seen in many places in the city centre. Alcazar de Sevilla, the palace, is renowned as one of the most beautiful in Spain, being regarded as one of the most outstanding examples of mudéjar architecture found on the Iberian Peninsula.
